If your house is like mine, mornings can feel like a circus. Sometimes rounding up my monkeys goes smoothly and sometimes it’s like herding cats. So I’d like to share some things this ringmaster has learned along the way to help your mornings be more enjoyable. To help get my point across, I recruited my wonderful neighbors and clients, Holly Hass and her two daughters, Kianna (11), and Justice (15).

2018 Holiday Home Tour, Midwest Nest Magazine

Yes, we know it's still October...but November is just around the corner and that means the 32nd Annual Homes for the Holidays tour is almost here. A holiday tradition in Fargo-Moorhead for over three decades, Homes for the Holidays is a treasured event featuring local homes beautifully decorated for the holiday season by area merchants and designers. The tour, coordinated by NDSU's Alpha Gamma Delta Alumnae, takes ticket holders through six stunning homes with proceeds benefiting Churches United for the Homeless. To get your early fix of holiday cheer, make sure to reserve your tickets and mark your calendars for November 3-4.

Down Home, Hoe Down, fundraiser, The Yard, Moorhead, Midwest Nest Magazine

We recently crossed paths with a non-profit by the name of Down Home and couldn't wait to meet with the founders, Jenessa and Jacob Fillipi to find out more. Follow them on social media and you'll see why; there's a steady stream of videos and photos showing them transforming vacant apartments and homes into warm, loving environments - all in a two-three hour time span. The difference is that they are not designers, home flippers or remodelers; and they're certainly not getting paid for it. The Fillipis are simply a caring family working hard to help transition the homeless into homes. Going beyond the basic necessities, their fully decorated spaces have become the catalyst for a better life. Creating a new space to embrace would mean giving the gift of hope and a fresh start to those with limited resources. Last month, we were invited to join them at their first "Hoedown for Homes" fundraiser at The Yard, a gorgeous down-home setting on the Red River in South Moorhead.
