Design Challenge Reveal 2020Story by Tracy Nicholson Photography by Dan Francis Photography How do you plan a Design Challenge in the midst of a pandemic? You think outside the box, then recruit some of the area's most talented designers to get creative inside the box. For our third annual Design Challenge, sponsored by SCHEELS Home & Hardware / Design Studio, we set up shop at the socially-distanced space of West Acres. The challenge kicked off with six 8x8 wooden boxes and 12 local designers in teams of two. We gave them one week to create a unique design, find a local charity to support, then showcase the work of a local artist. At the end of the challenge, each team gifted half of the boxes' contents to their chosen charities. After three weeks of online voting and tours, one winning team and runner-up were announced on September 14. This is giving back, by design.

[The Reveal]What happens when you take 10 local designers, split them into three teams, give each team an empty apartment at Pioneer Place, $500 in cash, and 24 hours to create a beautiful space? Glorious designs for a great cause. In our second annual Midwest Nest Design Challenge, each team competed, everyone voted, and while one team may have taken home the coveted trophy, it was local non-profit, Down Home who took home all the furnishings to help local families in their transition from homeless shelters to homes.

If you didn't make it out to the party at this beautiful model home in West Fargo, you also missed out on the debut and room reveal of our first annual Design Challenge, featuring nine local designers. Not to worry, we've got it covered. Read on and we'll give you a glimpse inside the party, room reveals and winner announcement, then finish with a tour through the spectacular host home.
