R.D. Offutt Company team members moved into their new downtown Field Support Office in late January, located on the corner of Broadway and 3rd Ave N. The company occupies 83,000 square feet of office space, which includes floors one through five, with additional team members on floor six of the recently completed mixed-use RDO Building.
The modern workplace design was inspired by an RDO core value of partnering with employees and informed by a working group of team members throughout the design process. At the center of the design philosophy was the notion of collaboration. The entire space was designed to promote formal and informal interactions between team members. Most notably, the fifth floor of the new building is designed as an open floorplan and boasts a work café and commons area, aimed to foster formal and informal interactions.
The office will eventually bring nearly 400 R.D. Offutt Company team members, previously spread across four locations in Fargo-Moorhead, under one roof. Short-term, however, occupancy is limited to no more than 50 percent capacity in accordance with company COVID-19 protocols.
“This single space for our field support teams will support our already collaborative and fast-paced culture,” said Tim Curoe, R.D. Offutt Company CEO. “Beyond that, the new office is a testament to RDO’s commitment to our community, our team members, and the industries we serve. It’s a milestone we are incredibly proud of as a company and as individuals.”
The building project broke ground in September 2018 and was a collaborative partnership between R.D. Offutt Company and Kilbourne Group.
Seeing this project to completion was BC Contracting, a full-service general contractor based in Fargo. Specializing in commercial, multi-family, and mixed-used construction and development, the Field Support Office build out was no small undertaking and included coordinating the work with two other general contractors working in the building at the same time, in a downtown worksite, during a pandemic.
BC Contracting worked hand in hand with project architects, RSP Architects, based in Minneapolis, and Povero & Company, based in New York City, and RDO leadership, from design concept through project completion. This integrated project delivery provided a seamless execution from design to construction, successfully bringing the collective vision of a tastefully designed, lively, and collaborative workspace to reality.
“We embraced RDO’s collaborative culture from day one,” commented Casey Jackson, Vice President of BC Contracting. “Our goal was to help guide decision making at every stage of the design phase through constructability reviews, product selection, and real time estimating. The transparency in this process enabled RDO to confidently make decisions that aligned with their business objectives.”
RDO’s 83,000 square foot Field Support Office boasts architectural wood accents, acoustical fabrics, and exposed concrete finishes that conceal state-of-the-art audio-visual capabilities and integrated mechanical systems designed to save energy and purify the air.
