[The Home Authority]Story by Rachael Boyer Photography by studio three beau With a unique approach to remodeling, The Home Authority is 23 years in the making, as a sister company of our Moorhead business, The Coatings Authority. Last month, we tackled one family's remodel wish list, and this month, we're back to showcase another stunner. Take a tour with us as we walk you through one of our latest remodel projects that we call, the "new-to-you" remodel. They found a house they loved, and we found the style and function they wanted to come home to. Part Two: The New-to-You Remodel Moving on to our second project, we call this our "new-to-you" remodel. The family had found a home with a layout they loved, on the perfect lot and located in a neighborhood they wanted to be in. Unfortunately, the Victorian style of the home was not in line with the modern farmhouse they were looking for. The home was purchased with the goal of changing the functionality and aesthetic, even before they moved in. By creating the modern farmhouse feel they wanted, we developed a personalized place that felt like home for the family, both in look and function. Remodel Rundown To complete this modern farmhouse overhaul, we reconfigured and refinished the staircase using a custom match to a Pottery Barn, Alfresco Brown wood finish and a custom matched white to the existing white trim. In the home's additional spaces, we refinished the mudroom cabinets, installed new flooring and shiplap in the main floor bathroom and worked with Grain Designs on the custom barn doors in the office area. In the lower level, we replaced the flooring with Kardean, Country Oak vinyl plank, refinished the cabinetry, reconfigured the pantry closet and refinished the bathroom vanity. In the family room, we designed custom built-in cabinets and shiplap features with a fireplace mantel and shelves by Grain Designs. We added beams to the ceiling, replaced light fixtures in the main living space, then added a Slayton 40S fireplace and Cultured Stone by Boreal ECHO Ridge. Throughout the home, we repainted all of the walls with Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray, Dovetail and Dorian Gray. In the kitchen, we installed a new backsplash, refinished the kitchen island with the custom-match, Pottery Barn Alfresco Brown, and added Grain Designs wood finishes to the range hood. The cabinetry also got an overhaul with new, custom-matched white doors that were fabricated to match the existing profiles by Braaten Cabinets. In the formal dining room, the homeowners needed function over formality, so they asked us to create a cozy gathering spot for the entire family. To do this, we added a fireplace with built-ins and shiplap, resulting in the perfect place to relax and gather. Behind the Design: Project #2 This home was an excellent example of repurposing - something we strive to do as often as we possibly can. The cabinetry throughout the house was a very unique cherry wood; it was beautiful, but not the right fit for this family. We added panels to the glass doors, custom-built additional doors, added new cabinetry and ultimately, completely transformed this home. With our sister company, The Coatings Authority, we have a wealth of creative solutions right at our fingertips, from custom color matching to painted shiplap. We touched every part of this home and in under six weeks, the family was able to move out of their temporary house and into their forever home. When we completed this project, the family gave us the biggest compliment we could ask for - “You made this place feel like home the moment we walked in!” Another mission accomplished! To ensure that clients are aware and educated throughout the entire process, we operate using a software platform that allows the homeowner to see financials, change orders, schedules, design, communication and much more. Unfortunately, we hear too often of new builds or remodels taking months and years to transition from design to completion. Families are negatively impacted along the way with unexpected change orders and delays that create unnecessary stress. We provide a one-stop, seamless process, that allows the family to continue to do the things they love to do, while we transform or build their new space.
