August 2020 Midwest Nest
Travels & Challenges
While this summer has been historically challenging, it's also given us time to plan and motivation to explore. While nearly all of our favorite events were canceled or postponed, we used the extra free time to travel farther and more often than we ever have; hence, our Gull Lake, Minn., cover this month. We stopped discussing all of the cool places and finally arrived. It's been exhilarating to see so many of our readers doing the same; visiting new lakes, renting campers, exploring national parks, or just simply using their imagination in their own backyard. I hope at least a bit of this creativity stays with us all, even when normalcy returns.
Debuting the Design Challenge
This summer, we also decided to safely plan our 3rd Annual Design Challenge, coming up with a pretty clever idea to showcase 12 local designer's work from afar. Instead of crowding into an empty house, we'll be providing a lifesize wooden box in a safely-distanced location at West Acres Mall. Six teams of two will put their best ideas into the box, coordinate donations and choose a charity.
On August 17-23, 12 local designers will begin the design process, and on August 24 the displays will be open for viewing at West Acres Mall. For your safety, displays can be voted on and viewed online, or visited in-person during mall hours. Voting will be done bracket-style, so make sure you vote each week, starting August 24!
With another big challenge on the horizon, we would like to send our sincere gratitude and prayers to all of the school officials, teachers, coaches, and administration who are new to the front-line, working tirelessly for our children's safety and education.
