July 2019 Midwest Nest
This editorial is the last thing I write in every issue...eek. After countless sleep-deprived nights, it's truly the worst possible time to share my brain fog of left-over thoughts, but I refuse to do it any other way. I just Googled "best ways to detox from coffee"...asking for a friend, of course.
So, why do we keep chasing these crazy deadlines? Because we love every coffee-spiked second of it. July is the month we look forward to all year long. This is where our team gets to spread their wings, hit the beach and get creative - letting the winding roads of lakes country lead us to our next great story. Trips to the beach, discovering new stores, new people, and new places are what makes our hearts beat like a 75 percent-off candle sale.
For this special lakes issue, we trekked to an area of Minnesota that I thought I'd never been to; Lake Sarah, near Erskine, Minn. I was so sure it was all new to me - that is until I drove by the sign for Farmers Union Camp, a place I'd been to a half dozen times as a child (rock-solid proof that kids have no idea where they are). After a fantastic home shoot, we were directed to the town of McIntosh, Minn., where we were promised a gorgeous, little boutique, thriving on big ideas - they were spot on. With a bit of shopping and conversation, we had two more story ideas that we cannot wait for you to see - stay tuned!
This month was a reminder of how very grateful we are for the people and ideas that continue to inspire us. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their story with us; your talents and ideas help make each issue an unexpected adventure. With our July issue wrapped up and August in the works, it's finally time to go jump in the lake!
